University Place is the result of an idea which evolved into a vision, and indeed a dream, of four couples, each with Purdue connections. Their story begins in the mid-1990s, a time when each of these couples was approaching retirement years.

The University Place Story has been documented by Dr. Marion F. Baumgardner. It was first published in March of 2007, revised and republished in 2016. Also, in October, 2016 Dr. Baumgardner tells the story in a 36 minute video.
